About
Berry Brief cuts down the reading needed to keep up with California strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
Why we do this
A Watsonville raspberry grower watching spotted wing drosophila needs different information from an Oxnard strawberry grower dealing with soil disease and harvest crews. Cooler managers, pest control advisers (PCAs), marketers and researchers have other questions. The district and the berry make the difference between an update you need and one you can skip.
Most of our work is deciding what to leave out.
What we cover
We follow season windows, which district is picking, labor, spotted wing drosophila, lygus, mites, soil disease, cooling, food safety, fruit-fly quarantines, fumigants and the fresh market. We name the coast or the district and the berry involved. We post those details in short updates as information comes in.
We start with California strawberry and caneberry reports, UC berry research, CDFA quarantine and fumigant notices, and market updates from Oxnard, Santa Maria and the central coast. We also read trade and local news. Links in the articles take you to the reports and notices behind them.
Who runs it
Verdus Labs, Inc. owns Hectare Brief, which includes Berry Brief. We use software to find information and draft articles. We choose what gets published and are responsible for errors.
